Blue PC Project Log 12 - 12th June 2006

Now onto the Hard Drive rack, or at least what I attempted...

^ On the left we have an old, dead, Maxtor 40gb drive, used for measurements. On the right is a nice and shiny brand new Samsung Spinpoint 250gb SATAII drive. Which comes completed with mounting screws, a jumper and a mini instruction leaflet - the first OEM drive I've come across with extras.

^ We then have an off-cut of the 8mm thick Acrylic.

^ Which was cut to size, to fit in one of the drivebays.

^ The hard-drive can sit on this, keeping it nice and cool from the 120mm front fan.

^ I used the dead 40gb to mark out the 4 bottom mounting holes.

^ I measure countless times, to ensure the holes were in the right place...

^ I tripled checked it was marked out correctly...

^ And it looked really nice in position...

^ However, after all the marking, all the error checking - I ended up with 4 holes in completely the wrong place. Don't ask how I did it, but my eyes must have fallen out temporarily whilst I was drilling...

^ So for now, the plastic sits in the roof of the case as a little window thing.

^ Hello inside of the case... where's your hard-drive shelf???

I think I have a bit of the 8mm left-over. The 3mm will work, but it is too thin to drill horizontally, in order to mount it in the rack. I'll see what I can do...
