Blue PC Project Log 14 - 19th June 2006 Two updates for today, firstly... ^ My Acer F-19 arrived! Well, it arrived 2 weeks ago, but I only managed to pick it up this weekend. ^ It's identical to the 20" widescreen that bit-tech reviewed, though it's the 19" model. ^ The quality of the monitor shines through the packaging as well as the product. The F-19 is definately aimed more at the mass consumer, than the enthusiast (who would know to run an LCD at its native resolution). ^ In the past, my LCDs have arrived with maybe 3 cables and a small instruction leaflet - the Acer comes with two boxes full of leads, along with 2 instruction books! ^ A shot from the back. The ferrari red is very nice. ^ Now that I've used the monitor for a good few hours, honestly the only disappointing thing with it, is the rear-removable panel isn't fully painted on the inside. OK you'd probably never remove the cover, but hey. ^ It is so shiney it's unbelievable. That's the project so far in the reflection. ^ The remote control has been given the 'gloss' treatment too and comes complete with the same protective film as the whole monitor. ^ See! 10 or so different cables, along with remote, instructions, cd manual and cleaning cloth. ^ When you turn on the LCD/TV it has a ferrari splash-screen. It's not just a badge on the front, but small things like this that add to the 'ferrari-ness'. ^ My media server is in bits and this project isn't complete, so I decided to try out the TV functionality first... here's BBC One. The stripes are from the reflection of the blinds. ^ The on-screen display has many more options than your average LCD panel. ^ As with my Pink PC project, the instruction manual had a funny or two within - like the SCRAT cable. I wish they'd missed out the 'R' completely. ^ A shot from the back (again)... ^ Size comparison between the F-19 and my laptop. How is the monitor? Fantastic. One of the complaints most reviews have, is the cost. But overclock currently have it on offer at around £250. Which, for a decent 8ms LCD isn't bad, especially as this has a TV tuner built-in too. I don't think I'll end up using the TV functionality in the long-term, as it doesn't support digital freeview. But it does mean that I can simply plug in the PS2 at any time. The monitor has everything - SCART, S-Video, DVI, VGA, Composite etc. If you're looking for a new panel, then look no further. Though most will probably dis-like it being branded with ferrari.
