About Me

Born on May 14th 1984, as Matthew Edward James Juffs; I grew up in Windsor, South-East UK.

At the age of 18 I started my 3 year degree, Games Computing (Software Development) at the University of Lincoln. I graduated in September 2005 with a 2:1 Honours and decided to stay in Lincoln.

I am a Web Developer for IOCEA.com LTD (the developers behind Cshop), who provide e-commerce solutions to many of the UK’s leading retailers. I specialise in valid XHTML/CSS and Javascript code along with ASP and MSSQL.

I enjoy many things such as socialising, music, gaming, films, the outdoors and I am also heavily into hardware and technology - as you can probably tell!

In 2005 I became engaged to Anneka, who I met at Lincoln Uni - a wedding date is still yet to be set! On 07/07/2008 our beautiful daughter - Lily Elizabeth was born! We’re currently blogging about baby Lily at babysfirstblog.com

Slickhouse

Slickhouse was started in 2002 by a small group of friends at University and was originally named PUN, or Piss-Up-Nite. It documented a few piss ups that we enjoyed through our University years. In 2003 I purchased the domain slickhouse.com along with some hosting from UKHost4u.com.

The name “slickhouse” originates from the house that I lived in during University life (and still reside in today). The house itself was said to be “slick” by a friend and so the name slickhouse was born.

Over the past few years, slickhouse has gone through 6 major version changes - and has altered its focus a few times too. Now it is my blog, for me to keep a record of my ‘digital thoughts’ and it also allows me to showcase a few of my projects.

Since March 2008, Slickhouse has been hosted from slickhouse itself! See hosting.slickhouse.com for more information.

WordPress

Slickhouse is powered by WordPress - one of, if not the most popular Content-Management-Systems for weblogs. The theme has been created by yours truly, using the XHTML/CSS/PHP knowledge I posses. WordPress itself utilises MySQL to store all of the content within a database.

Code

Every page on slickhouse.com should validate successfully according to the W3C standards. You can validate the code yourself using the two links in the footer of every page. If you’d like a copy of the WordPress theme, or any of the slickhouse.com source code for personal use then contact me.

Limitations

The Blog section of this site is limited to 5 posts per page - this is to encourage you to use the archiving features of WordPress, but also to keep the front page looking fresh.

RSS

Those with RSS feed reader software can use the links in the header. WordPress supports RSS1 and RSS2 along with Atom feeds. If you are unfamiliar with RSS, then see Wikipedia!

AddThis

Slickhouse uses AddThis to provide you with many options to add slickhouse articles to your preferred Social Bookmarking site. I use the dropdown AddThis code, modified to work with WordPress. You’ll find AddThis on both the homepage and individual article pages.
