Casino Royale
Outstanding!
Bond 21 is possibly the most controversial Bond film to-date, as not only have they dropped the popular Pierce Brosnan, but they brought in a blonde Bond - in the form of Daniel Craig.
But, after seeing the film tonight, I laugh in the face of all the disbelievers - you can go back to sulking in the corner. Daniel Craig is possibly the best of the 6 Bond actors IMO - he’s everything a Bond should be and more.
The film itself is great - long, but in a good way. Full of humour and action - AND everything is believable. Unfortunately no fancy gadgets to see, but I think after the ‘invisible’ Aston Martin of Die Another Day, Q (or is it R?) has been put to one side.
Go and see the film if you haven’t already - and tell me that Daniel Craig doesn’t do James Bond.
Tokyo Drift
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah.
The Fast and The Furious - Tokyo Drift is actually pretty damn cool. Adamskii will laugh at me, but I will laugh it off - FF3 is fantastic!
I purchased a *cough* not so good copy a few months back, but it was such a bad recording - think DivX compressed 1000 times over - that I stopped the DVD after about 20 minutes. It was released in the UK to DVD only last week, so I decided to replace the *cough* copy with the real deal - worth every penny.
The races are great and believable - unlike 2, where most of them looked like cheap (and tacky) CG, made by monkeys fed on pea soup. The only disappointment is Lucas Black’s ‘red-neck’ voice - he suited Jarhead very well, but it just doesn’t quite work.
The soundtrack is great too, worth the download (from iTunes of course). Roll on #4?!?
I’ll be moving to Tokyo sometime soon, purchasing myself a Skyline and ensuring that I keep above 160KPH. If the film is to be believed, Japanese police wont pursue you if you are travelling faster than that. I wont spoil it for you all, but Mr. Diesel makes a (albeit, short) return to our screens.
CPU Chart
Just a useful link for those of you that are interested in computers. Tom’s Hardware has an extremely handy page, which allows you to compare many of today’s CPUs against each other in several different benchmarks. It saves trawling through excess pages of waffle, to get to decent benchmark results on the many reviews you’ll find scattered around the web.
The link is here. I’ll put it on the sidebar too for future reference - we used it to compared an 3800 X2 with a 3500 and were quite surprised at how well the 3500 still stands up against the ‘newer’ dual core offerings. Let me know if it’s been of use to you!
Linux
I’ve tried it in the past, but never seen the need for it - what with Windows being able to do everything I need.
However, as I’ve started putting together my mini-itx PC, powered by a super-slow-super-low-power CPU (<600MHz), with a 2.2GB Microdrive and 384MB RAM, I have come to realise that XP may not be suitable.
This afternoon I’ve been getting to grips with DSL (Damn Small Linux), which is damn small. At 50MB it’s less than 1% the size of a bloated XP install! So far I’ve successfully partitioned the 2.2GB Microdrive for Linux and it’s currently running Memtest to ensure the old SD-RAM sticks I found lying around, are good to go.
Then tomorrow, whilst hungover, I’ll begin installing DSL itself - and see how it performs. Afterall, I only need Firefox working, along with Remote Access to my server - situated in the loft.
I feel geekier than normal, as Linux is the epitome of geekdom.
Bliss Island
As I was trawling through all my old emails, I came across one from Codemasters. You can download for free their Bliss Island game:
* Over 90 levels to explore and play
* Progressing Adventure & Challenge Modes
* Outstanding Graphics and Audio
* 5 Very Different Game Types
* Free Full PC Game
After downloading it, the <15mb setup file size didn’t thrill me - it appears that it’s a small game with limited playability, but I’ll give it a go.
If anyone else is bored, download it from here and spread the ‘Bliss Island’ word. Just don’t complain if it’s shit.
