Holiday!
Another Holiday for meeeeeeeee!
I’m off for two weeks and one day, with only 3 hours and 10 minutes left until it commences.
This means I wont be near the Internet for long, if at all - so don’t expect any more ‘digital thoughts’ until early August.
If you load up your browser in the near future and find slickhouse.com no longer works, it’s because my monthly bandwidth has been exceeded. When I first took out my hosting plan, I never expected slickhouse to exceed 25gb/month, but I’ve had 20k hits or so on the Red Nineteen pics. The site will be back in August I promise, but if it appears to have disappeared you now know why.
Maybe UKHost4u will be kind and up my bandwidth to 50gb/month to keep it inline with the new packages? I’ll post a link just to make sure. And another here. One more. There.
AOEII
I know I’ve mentioned several current generation games, that all require pretty high spec hardware to run them smoothly… but last night I spent a few hours on Age of Empires II, playing it on the LAN against Anneka.
If you’ve seen it before, you’ll know that compared to today’s standards, AOEII is fairly primitive. However, it’s not all down to the graphics, as the gameplay is very good still and kept me entertained for far longer than Call of Duty 2 or Ghost Recon have so far.
It probably runs at a billion frames per second too, even on the 2.6GHz Celeron.
What I really need now though, is more games like it - old school, that will run on pretty much every PC and that work well in a LAN environment, so that hopefully in September all 4 of us can compete. Counter-Strike and the likes are out of the question, as they’re too fast and demanding in terms of hardware and player. I’m thinking Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and Red Alert 2 should suffice - anyone know of any more, preferably non-RTS as I’ve got them covered…
Counter-Strike Flash
I came across this link the other day, whilst surfing ye’ ol’ ‘net - the Internet.
7 or so Counter-Strike Flash games, perfect for passing the minutes/hours by during the day - and for those slower PCs that wont run the latest games.
I haven’t tried them all out yet, so give me some recommendations from the list…
Brahmas
Why is it so damn hard to find beer?
About a month or two ago, I was given a selection of beers from a colleague. Amongst them was a bottle of Brahmas, a Brazilian beer. I’ve only had one bottle of the stuff, but it was great (or uber for the Germans [and Gruber] out there).
It’s up there with Stella and Tiger beer, but I haven’t managed to find any since. I’ve been to Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, Co-Op, Threshers, Netto and several others, with no luck…
If you spot any Brahmas, then tell me where! I’ve asked my colleague where they picked it up from, but haven’t found any since. I’m desperate for the stuff, it was thuper!
Half Life 2
I’m currently re-installing Half Life 2 on my new PC… which should take all night!
It’s surprising how much it has been updated and CS-Source, as there’s a lot to download.
I’ll let you all know how fast it runs once I get it up and running. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some practice in on Counter-Strike before work on Monday morning. But at this rate, I don’t think so.
