DVDs

Finally! I can sit down and watch Ong-Bak. I pre-ordered the DVD a while back for arrival on release day, but ever since it popped through the letterbox, I’ve not had the chance to watch it - until now!

Whenever I get the chance to watch a DVD there’s always mixed opinions on which, as I don’t enjoy watching films on my own - they’re more fun with several people, as you can exchange opinions at the end etc.

On the list of Matt’s DVDs to (still)watch are:

*Ong-Bak (watching in a few minutes, unless my DVD drive explodes)
*Bill & Ted’s Bogue Journey (£5.87 at ASDA - who could resist?)
*Jurassic Park III (watched the first 2 from ‘The Ultimate Collection’)
*Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
*A Bear’s Tail (watched about 3 episodes, another 3 or so left + hours of extras)
*Blade I + II box-set (looking back, the third was shite)

I’d better get cracking…

XBOX 360

Although I’m not an owner of said console, I believe Adamskii is in the process of purchasing one.

I’ve just been reading about how much Microsoft’s XBOX really costs…

(this is in dollars $ by the way):

Seeing as they lost around $125 per console on the XBOX, you’d think they would try to make a little on the 360, but again, they’re losing another $125 per console. The console itself costs $471 to make, and is sold for $470 to the consumer - including the controller, HDD etc.

“72% of the cost of creating the XBox 360 goes on semiconductors (silicon) alone, and $106 goes towards the CPU and $141 to ATI for the graphics card.”

You could get a decent PCI-E card for that…

“It is also estimated that the PS3 will cost $600 to make, which is $129 or more than the XBox 360, especially because Sony plans to integrate the new technology, Blu-ray into the PS3.”

This will mean that the PS3 will cost even more than the XBOX 360, and the increase in costs hints at consoles costing even more in the future - the day where a PC is a cheaper alternative could be coming.

Old Skool Gaming

As mentioned in a previous post, my gaming has been somewhat limited since installing my LCD to my ceiling…

I’ve not touched Counter-Strike since the summer holidays! But I managed to get some time yesterday to play GTA-San Andreas. According to the save game, I’ve not played it since 31st March this year. It was a bit confusing at first, as I couldn’t remember half of the controls and I’ve completely forgotten what I’m supposed to be doing. But it was still good, I spent most of the time gambling in the casino, putting down bets of 1million (I’m up to 102million in the game now), along with running over cops in a pickup truck.

Today, I’ve been trawling through my old games, looking for ones that will run on my trusty laptop - afterall it’s not equipped with a 7800-go. I came up with Age Of Empires 2 - nice and easy LAN game. OK, I had to trawl the net and find a decent no-cd along with the latest patch, but it’s all up and running on several PCs on my home network. So I should be building an army within the next few minutes.

I miss games… I reckon my new-years resolution should be to build a new gaming PC, or pre-order a Playstation 3. Afterall, the 360 wont be available for months with all this hype.

ebay update!

After a week of ebay selling, we’ve made about £55. Which isn’t bad at all, considering we were planning on making £100 in 4 weeks.

We sold 5 items, at an average of £11 an item (incl. postage). The hard task is working out which items to sell next - if at all…

R.I.P

George Best died the other night, which everyone was expecting… but Richard Burns former WRC World Champion passed away too. George Best dying didn’t really affect me, as I haven’t followed football recently… well ever. But the WRC is great, so the first English WRC World Champion passing away means more than a past football hero to me.

Whereas Best has been in the media for years with his alcohol problems, Burns had been suffering from a brain tumour for several months.

Ah well, I’m still in one piece…
